Department of Transportation (DOT)
The Federal agency of the United States that governs the interstate transportation industry which includes moving companies who transport household goods. The DOT acts in correlation with the Surface Transportation Board (STB) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA).
Destination Agent – A responsible party, in the area where the load is being shipped, designated to be available to assist or provide information regarding shipments to the customer or the van operator.
Diversion
When the customer changes the destination of a shipment after it is already in transit. Transportation charges are calculated from the point of origin to the point where the carrier is able to divert the load in addition to the transportation charge from the diversion point to the new point of destination.
Divider
A separation device placed between your household goods and other customers’ household goods or commercial items that will be shipped on the same truck.
Divider Installation – This is the cost involved to install a divider.
